Choir practice 

We are excited to announce that ARC Cancer Support Centres have put together a choir called the ARC Angels.

We will be holding our choir practice in St Ann's Church on Dawson St on the 26th February, the 26th March and the 30th April from 6.15 pm -7.45 pm

Anne Roche Positive Appearance

We will be welcoming Anne Roche into ARC in Eccles st on Tuesday the 5th March at 10.30 to give a talk on practical advice to manage the visible signs of cancer, hair loss, breast surgery, skin and body changes and less visible signs such as fatigue, well being and self image.

Metastasis - understanding how cancer spreads

ARC in Eccles st will welcome Denis Collins on the 26th March at 5.30pm to give a talk on Metastasis.  '

Metastasis is the spreading of cancer cells from where they first arose (the primary site) to other parts of the body (secondary sites).

The talk will look at how cancer spreads and current avenues of research that are being explored around cancer. There will also be some general information on how to interpret graphs and data that people may come across in medical and scientific papers.

 I will also give some background on research that is being carried in my lab (Cancer Biotherapeutics/Molecular Therapeutics for Cancer Ireland, National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology, Dublin City University) that focusses primarily on breast cancer but is relevant to other cancer types as well. The research in Cancer Biotherapeutics is supported by the Cancer Clinical Research Trust.'

Prostate Talk

ARC in Eccles st will welcome David Galvin along with other guest speakers to do a talk on prostate cancer on Friday 29th March at 10.30 am.

Guest speaker: Dr. David Galvin is a consultant at The Mater Hospital, Dublin, and a specialist in Urology.   David Galvin, Consultant Urologist at the Mater Misericordiae and St Vincent’s Hospitals and Principal Investigator on the IPCOR (Irish Prostate Cancer Outcomes Research) study.

Guest speaker: Grainne Sheill, Grainne Sheill currently works at the Department of Physiotherapy, Trinity College Dublin. Grainne does research in Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation Medicine and Oncology.

We also welcome Kevin Leech who is a 6 week ARC prostate cancer course facilitator and also we have a client representative

Bereavement Talk

Our Psychotherapist  Virginia Kerr will be giving a Bereavement talk for those who have been bereaved and would like help coping with their grief.

This talk will take place on Friday 29th March at 12.30pm in South Circular Road.

Talking to Chidren about Cancer

ARC Eccles st will welcome Yvonne O'Meara to do a talk on the 21st May at 5pm.

Talking to children and adolescents about cancer can be challenging on many levels.  This presentation is suitable for any person who is impacted by cancer and has young people in their lives.  The presentation will explore with the audience what and who has impacted their values and beliefs when it comes to communicating about cancer within the family.

Yvonne will provide practical guidelines on communicating with children and adolescents.

New Chair Yoga

We are excited to introduce Chair Yoga to ARC in Eccles St. 

Chair yoga can lessen the impact of chronic illnesses and can help with stress management and coping with pain.  Ground your mind and body with this chair flow.  Perfect for all levels.  This routine is a great way to relax from head to toe without the stress of getting out of your chair.  Open your hips, move your shoulders and neck and lengthen your spine with this practice.
